Foul wx sail training

You’ve heard the expression – “You can’t buy training like this.”

Well, you can even if it’s not what you wanted.

Richard and his son Alex have had way more than their share of foul weather. Richard completed ASA 103 a month or so ago and now it’s Alex’s turn.

So far that turn has included a fairly strong Santa Ana and a blustery, rainy day. He’s learned to reef in trying conditions and how to find his way home even when the visibility drops to a mile or so.

Certainly no one would choose to sail in weather like this – especially not here in Southern California, where we expect 300+ days of great weather. On the other hand, when this team finds itself in a storm, they’ll take it in stride.

BTW – Sailtime members here in the Channel Islands do get to buy training like this in various clinics run throughout the year. Foul Wx, safety and sea and spinnaker handling are just a few of the advanced courses offered by Sailtime Channel Islands Sailing School
