Catalina – Why bother?

I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again. If I were forced to pick only one place in the world that I could sail it would be our very own Channel Islands. I now amend that to the Channel Islands less Catalina.

Why bother?

SancerreWe sailed Sancerre all night on Th. to ensure we’d find a mooring in Two Harbors. (We did, but we could also have found one if we’d come down in daylight.) Since we went at night, there was no wind.

I hate motoring. I don’t like all-nighters and this required both.

We spent our time in a spot almost as pretty as the least pretty place on Santa Cruz, and bow to stern, beam to beam with 50 or so strangers. (Some, really really strange). We had a couple of excellent meals while we were there and did a little kayaking.

We headed home, again in the dark, again – all night. Did I mention …

Nevertheless, if you want to go, I’ll take you. It’s more touristy than I like, I’ll try to steer you to the northern islands, but it’s your cruise…
