
If you haven’t walked down to the ocean in the last few days you missed a helluva show. Photographers crammed the beaches trying to get the perfect shot of the waves at the area’s best surf spots.
But the picture above isn’t about beauty. It’s about an obvious hazard and tells the whole story of why we saw no yachts on the water for the last couple of days: you simply wouldn’t want to attempt leaving the harbor.
I believe you could have gotten out with reasonable safety margin, but coming home with a huge following sea that was breaking inside the breakwater would have been very dicey, particularly in a sailboat with limited engine power.
