What’s in this name?

Yes, of course, you first thought it was an astronomical reference to Saturn’s moon Titan and the seventh planet from the Sun.

  1. This ship has an amusing history as well. She’s a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) acquired by Hong Kong based Titan Petrochemicals in 2004. They name their ships after celestial bodies, hence “Titan Uranus.” Apparently the language barrier prevented them from recognizing the obvious homophone. But not so with people in the US and the UK, who began circulating the picture and blogging like crazy. Recognizing their faux pas, the company renamed her “Titan Taurus “in 2006. She is now named “K Cosmos.”

  2. Update: The Very Large Crude Carrier was recently spotted carrying 64 oz diet coke and a Double Double.
