Sail Channel Islands Cruising Guide: Santa Rosa Island

We made a run to Cuylers and on the way stopped in Johnsons Lee on Santa Rosa Island this season. Mouse over Johnsons Lee on Google Earth's Santa Rosa pic and you'll go right to the spot.

The "Lee," btw, can be pretty ferocious, though rarely a lee shore. Our experience has been sublime, but we had a couple of extraordinarily calm fall days.

The only other well-protected anchorage is the Northeast Anchorage in Bechers Bay. It's one of the least lovely anchorages on the northern channel islands, but it is on the way to Cuylers, one of the most beautiful. We've also stopped at Ford Point (beautiful, but exposed) and the Southeast Anchorage in Bechers Bay (pretty on the day we tried it, but very, very exposed and a lee shore when the wind does come up.)
